Microsoft gives Windows 8 pirates – a free Key for Legitimate Windows 8 Activation

A security hole has been discovered in Microsoft’s product activation process that allows pirates to get a free legitimate activation of Windows 8 using the current Windows Media Center upgrade promotion.

A Key Management System(KMS) activation allows your unlicensed copy of Windows to be fully usable for 180 days which is typically used to help Volume Licensing customers automate and manage the activation process, but pirates have found a way to take advantage of it.

Microsoft is giving away a Media Center(WMC) upgrade to Windows 8 Pro users, until January 31st, pirates have discovered that the key provided  here will fully activate a copy of Windows 8 that was previously temporarily activated through the third-party KMS workaround!

And now effectively, the upgrade key given with the WMC will replace your KMS activation, allowing you to be legitimately activated!

The Verge has confirmed that the procedure works on a test machine. Reddit user explains the process to activate. Its a fix whether Microsoft did it by mistake or on purpose!
