Trick to open CSV document in Google Docs

Updated on September 1, 2017

Here’s something strange in Google Docs, it doesn’t open the CSV document by default. But fortunately Google docs can convert the CSV document to Google spreadsheet format. Here’s is how you can do that,

1. When you upload the CSV document in Google docs, it doesn’t open it natively. Google docs says “No preview available”. Now click File > Export to Google Spreadsheet. Google docs will convert the CSV document to Google Docs format, allowing you to open and edit the document.

2. Well, you can tell Google Docs to automatically convert the documents to Google docs format – “Convert Uploaded files to Google docs format” by clicking upload icon > Settings. That’s it, now all the uploaded documents will be converted to Google docs format automatically.
