Is a Coin Holder or a Spoiler or a Sunroof useful in Indian Cars?
Everybody loves cars! And yes people have a craze to cars that have a western look. But does it need to have features too that are from the western?!
There are many features in our Indian cars which are influenced by the ones in western countries but most of them are useless for us in for some reason. This is mostly done as a trick to attract more customers and a have the features list long. Whereas, customers nowadays, search for specific features in cars to suit their convenience. Here are the 10 most useless features , according to me, listed down.
1.Coin Holder
This is the feature which is available for storing coins so that we can use it easily at the parking meters. India doesn’t have parking meters and rather in the rate of inflation, the coins could not be even offered to beggars in India.
2. Compass
The compass feature is already available in GPS maps. Updates for these maps are done regularly and hence this feature is considered useless in cars of India and not only India, any country for that matter.
3. Cruise Control
In western countries, this control is used to control the speed of driving of inter-city journeys and prevent them getting penalty ticket. As we don’t have ticket system, it is like giving a bicycle to a baby.
4. Day time running lights (DRL)
These lights are useful for the vehicles in countries where days are mostly dark. It is also useful when there is fog. In most of the parts of India, days are bright and sunny so, the light may be useful only in hill stations.
5. First aid kit
This first aid kit is regarded useless because the first aid requirements vary from person to person and what comes as a free accessory with the car is just the basic kit. Also for countries like India, where atleast 20 accident happen in a day, first aid kit is a must. So it is best to design your own first aid kit, but hey, the bag given for the first aid kit is very useful!
6. Spoilers
Spoilers are particularly useful for closed circuits and races where high speed can topple the car off. This part is there for a cause and is a part of the aerodynamic design and helps cut through the wind. But what is it doing in our daily use? It is now rather meant as a style statement and doesn’t serve the purpose. Manufacturers also charge extra money for the feature.
7. Roof rails
Roof rails are useful for mountaineering in which you can carry mountain bikes and other utilities. But what is it doing on a hatchback?
8. Sun-glass holder
Is this feature really present in a car? Most cars don’t have this. But in cars that do, larger sunglasses don’t fit in. And you have to buy sunglasses that fit in to the holder. Else, you can use this box to hold your “other” small things!
9. Sunroof
The most useful feature during romantic nights when your other half stands up enjoying the view and your drive. But whats about it during the day? Look out, Pan attack and people may spit inside your car from a bus. Yuck!
10. Temperature gauge
The temperature gauge was used in vehicles a long time back and indicates to top up the radiator with water. Now-a-days cars use a cooling system which cool the engine when it runs for a long time and the heat is not given out through the bonnet. As cars are becoming more and more sophisticated, this feature is very much out of date.
Are the manufacturers trying to bring all the features available for western countries which are developed? Or, are they trying to bring unity to the manufacturing so that there is no change in the car, so it can also be imported easily? Or is it the mindset of the people? Its time to change and look for effectiveness!
How long will we be just a “developing” country?
