Toshiba announces new range of laptop drives
Toshiba has released its highest density 1TB 2.5-inch hard drive for portable devices like mobile computers.The 1TB 2.5-inch hard drive is 9.5 mm in thickness and has a 2.5-inch MK7559GSXP HDD with two-platters of 750GB capacity. There is also another model, MK1059GSM which is a 2.5-inch model with 12.5 millimeter thickness. It comes with three platters offering 750GB and 1 TB storage space.
The HDDs proffer a lot of space for the users to store data. And both the sets are designed on Toshiba’s own technology called ‘Silent Seek’. The technology makes every data seek operation quieter just like an idle drive. There has been significant improvement on the perpendicular magnetic recording technology on the head and disk.
Both the HDDs have the same 5400RPM spindle speed, 8MB buffer memory, 12 millisecond seek time and SATA 2.6 3Gb/s interface. It is expected that the company may start shipping the product next month. However, there is no word about its pricing and exact release date.
