Twitter has 250 million tweets per day: Web 2.0 Summit

Twitter as all know a 140 characters info sharing micro blogging social networking site. It was founded by Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone and Evan Williams in march 2006. The company has been busy adding features to the product like gmail import and search. They recently launched a new site section called “Explore” for external and third party tools that interact with Twitter and a new visualization tool called Twitter Blocks.

The Twitter CEO Dick Costolo has just revealed few statistics about the micro blogging networking site that gone from 90 million tweets per day in september 2010 to 100 million at the beginning of this year and 1/4 billion tweets per day as of today, a whopping 177% change ! Its a great deal of upside for the twitter !

The recent IOS 5 twitter integration has increased the usage of twitter 3 times more than its previous. There were 30% of its 100 million users active every day in Jan 2011 which has been increased to now 50%  of active daily users today.

Costolo Quoted: “250 million tweets mean that there’s enough content on the site that a new user should be able to find something relevant to them. We’ve got to figure out how to capture the volume at the same time as separating the signal from the noise”.

Twitter is been ambitious to reach out to 2 billion devices around the world and every person on this planet. !!!
