Conficker worms targets Asia & Latin America : Symantec

The worm, known by several names including Conficker and Downandup, has been spreading by taking advantage of a flaw in a Windows Server service that Microsoft patched during the month of october.

These worms are more targetting the computer networks in Asia and Latin America. It seem to have infected between 6 million and 9 million PCs worldwide.  And it seems to the most fast-spreading worm.

According to Symantec; security and anti-virus company, China and Argentina are the most affected in Asia. Atmost 29 percent of computers have been affected in china and 11 percent from Argentina. Accroding to Alfred Huger, vice president of Symantec Security said  “We’re not seeing anywhere near the number of infections in western Europe and North America.”

The code is very specially written by Belgian hackers, which looks like it targets china & Latin America.

“It’s a fantastic spread relative to other threats, and yet the author seems to have become suddenly self-conscious about updating,” Huger said. “Maybe he’s concerned about all the press it’s getting and doesn’t want to go to jail.” says Yahoo new site.
