Children play with Apple – to refund $32.5 Million dollars.
“An apple a day keeps the doctor away” goes the old proverb. It is said to ask children to eat more of their fruits especially apples to keep illness away. But most of the children did not like the fruit and so will not eat it. Was it like that in the past only? No, even now. But the apple is different. It is not a fruit but a company that manufactures the iPads, the iPods and the iPhones.
Apple has a case following the mischief of many children who do in-app purchases (IAP) without the consent of their parents. Their parents allow the downloading of free apps and games which is actually a ‘freemium’ content and which may have IAPs. The children do some purchasing for some extra features, which may not be available in the free version.
The settlement with the Federal Trade commission (FTC) was issued on Wednesday and Apple is going to change its billing practices. The company is going to refund $32.5 million dollars in this light. The CEO Tim Cook in an internal memo said that the dealing with FTC is better than a long term case in the court. Seems Apple was any way going to make these amendments and now, they have to do it forcefully as opposed to willingly.
