Gameplay

The gameplay features three locations – Havana, Kingston and Nassau. It is very much like the previous Assassins’ Creed which were under the Templar rule where you have to get your assassins to free control. In the earlier versions, once you had freed an area you could have that area for your own and no one will attack you. With AC3, your area will be under attack if you neglect it for a long time. You need to prevent it from being attacked by employing assassins on the roof and some barricades to prevent advance of enemy troops.

In this version there will be a ratio of when you will be in land and when you will be in Naval battles (60:40). The hunting system is also reappearing in this version which will allow the player to hunt on land and fish in the water. The player’s ship is called JackDaw which is upgradeable throughout the game and is easily available for the player when in need. There is also a new system in which the crew will not be able to fire long shots and assassinations as Ubisoft felt that it was not up to the mark and allowed the player to get out of serious and tense scenes easily. There is also a new and upgraded Recruiting system which featured in Brotherhood.

Controls and Characters

Protagonist is Edward Kenway who is the grandfather of Connor and father of Haytham Kenway. The characters include real life characters like Edward Blackbeard Thatch, Benjamin Hornigold, Anne Bonny, Calico Jack, and Charles Vane. The Controls are similar to the previous games. Pressing Q reveals the weapon wheel. Sprint is by pressing the right mouse and movement is by direction keys. The controls are changeable in the Controls menu.

The game is very engaging and can take hours to complete. Don’t tell I didn’t warn you.
