Place a finger on your Lips and Say “Shhh…” and your TV will Mute!
Can you imagine to place a finger on your lips and say “Shhhh…” and your home appliances just turns off? Well, I am not going to imagine that, as I have already got a hands-on with PointGrab’s gesture driven interfaces during CES 2014. Sounds interesting? There is much more to get interested with the product. PointGrab’s gesture based software can work with 2D cameras. In fact during the demonstration, the system just had a Logitech webcam. Yes, the system doesn’t require 3D information, but allows you to point at icons on interfaces (just like you press the icon to close it). You can pick virtual controls and drag objects on the interface, write the channel number in the air to switch TV channel, play or pause music and mute the system by placing the finger on your lips. It means, the technology aims to bring all the touch based games to your smart TVs; all you need is, enable the software on your TV and a webcam.
PointGrab provides free software development kit to let companies integrate gesture based software in their products. For instance, PointGrab’s CamMe is one such application for iPad, which uses FaceTime cameras to analyze user gestures and allows to control the device.
According to the reports from the company, PointGrab’s gesture driven software has already been installed in 20 million devices and have also partnered with Smart TV makers like Samsung, Lenovo and TCL.
“We expect that in the next few years, gesture-controlled home appliances will be part of many households around the world,” PointGrab CEO Haim Perski told.
