Color Wheels Made From Musician Names And Song Titles – Dorothy

The designers of We Are Dorothy have designed color charts that feature colors named for songs and musicians. There are two color wheels,  “The Colour Of Song” and “The Colour Of Popular Music.”

Ruby Tuesday is a dark red on the song wheel and Black Sabbath is a black on the popular music wheel.

“We started with our own record collections (some of the more obscure psychedelic prog rock bands and tracks are courtesy of [We Are Dorothy colleague] Phil’s collection) and when we exhausted these we consulted books like ‘Martin C. Strong’s Essential Music Discographys’,”  Dorothy’s Ali Johnson says. “And yes, when we were running out of ideas and needed to fill in the gaps we did resort to Google.”

The Colour of Song features the titles of 576 tracks that include a colour in their title including classics like Pale Blue Eyes, Yellow Submarine, Purple Rain, Back to Black, Brown Sugar, Fools Gold and Blue Monday and some guilty pleasures like Mr. Blue Sky, Goldfinger and (for children of the 80’s) Pretty in Pink.

The Colour of Popular Music features the names of 154 bands (and artists) with a colour in their title. From the obvious Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Blondie, King Crimson and The white Stripes to the more obscure (but not forgotten) Silver Apples, Black Flag, The Red House Painters, and The Green Telescope, plucked from the depth’s of Phil’s well thumbed vinyl collection.
