Gisteq Photo Trakr Plus
This geo tagger is set to steal the stage from Nikon’s own GP-1 dongle, leaving the camera manufacturer scratching its head and wondering what they did wrong. The answer is: a lot, Nikon. A lot. Gisteq’s Photo Trakr Plus not only saves up to 4X more power than Nikon’s own device, it doesn’t get in the way of other hotshoe attachments. Sure, nobody wants to use their flash when they’ve got their geo tagger attached (what was Nikon thinking?) In addition, Gisteq’s device doesn’t require any warm up time—perfect for on the go quick snapping. Another handy feature is that the geo data is embedded directly into the image data when the photo is snapped, eliminating the unnecessary syncing of older model taggers.
To save on hotshoe space, the device plugs into the ten-pin port that generally doesn’t get to much attachment love and features 44 tracking channels (over twice what Nikon was willing to part with.) The last nail in Nikon’s coffin is the price tag. While Nikon’s still trying to pawn its geo tagger off on unsuspecting photographers for $200+, Gisteq is happy pocketing $179 for each of its devices.
