LG Announces Fireweb – Its First Firefox OS Smartphone [CES 2014]
In mid 2012, the Mozilla foundation announced Firefox mobile operating system. Later, in CES 2013 GeekPhone launched the world’s Firefox based smartphone and named it as Keon and Peak. The second phone was Alcatel’s One Touch Fire, which was released during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. And now its time to see what’s at stake for Firefox OS at CES 2014 in Las Vegas. To our surprise, LG shocked the show with its first Firefox based handset called Fireweb. According to the reports from LG, the company has been in works from October to design a smartphone that runs Firefox OS and now it’s shown in the Consumer Electronics Show.
LG has not revealed when the device will exactly reach US market, but the handset is all set to go into sale soon. In the design side, the phone’s back is plastic with glossy shining, sports 4-inch display screen with low pixel resolution of 480 x 320. The more disappointment is with hardware, the device is powered by 1GHz processor, but seems to play good while using HTML5 based applications. You will find a power button, head jack at the top and microUSB at the bottom. The volume rocker is located on the left side.
The device is now on sale for Brazil customers with price tag of $207.
