What happened to Malaysian Airline Flight 370? May be one reason in 11 Possible scenarios
It’s almost 6 days into the search of the missing Malaysian Airline flight 370. There were numerous false leads, theories across Facebook and Twitter, but the search team didn’t find any clue till now. The speculations are, the flight might be hijacked, crashed, drowned due to pilot mistakes etc…but probably the reason could be one among these 11 possible scenarios.
According to the report from Mashable, the popular technology news website who interviewed Todd Curtis, former aviation safety engineer at Boeing and creator of AirSafe.com, to understand the possible reason behind the missing flight 370.
Hijacked to unknown region
According to the reports from ABC News, the plane’s two communication systems were switched off separately, which means the flight did not crash due to technical failures.
Why did the plane take a different route? The flight supposed to fly over South China Sea, but it seems to have changed the course and flowed over Thailand and Dreadnought Bank. Flight lost the contact with control room and but still travelled for an hour? But where to?
Update: 14/3/2014 – 5pm
According to the reports from NDTV, the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 370 was deliberately flown towards India’s Andaman sea.
“What we can say is we are looking at sabotage, with hijack still on the cards,” said the Malaysian Police Official. It seems the flight was controlled by a person who knew how to fly a plane.
Based on the above piece of information, the flight should have been hijacked to an unknown region. But the informations were denied by Malaysian Military.
Catastrophic reasons
The former aviation safety engineer, Todd told that the series of catastrophic events would have caused flight to crash after the last known contact point. But where are the debris?
Rapid or Slow decompression
Probably a lack of oxygen in the plane? According to aircraft safety experts, rapid or slow decompression can occur in the aircraft and that can cause hypoxia for passengers – which is a condition caused by low oxygen. Even in such situations, the aircraft can fly in autopilot mode for an hour. At Last, the flight would have crashed when it ran out of fuel. This could have happened to Malaysian Airlines flight 370.
Technical Failure
One of the aircraft’s system component would have failed – which includes communication systems, hydraulic controls or electrical system. “What may have happened in the air is unclear,” told Todd.
Pilot Mistake
This could be one reason. Most of the flight crashed were due to pilot errors. One such instance to name – Adam Air Flight 574 which killed 102 passengers in 2007 and it’s debris was not found for a week. But again where is the debris of Malaysian Airline flight 370? According to the reports, during most of the plane crashes, the debris would have rushed down to the bottom of sea water and are difficult to find.
India have joined hands in searching the missing flight over Indian Ocean and China in mailand.
A Weak Spot
Many aircraft crashed over the years were due to the mechanical failures. The experts suspect a “weak spot” in the structure of the plane, that could lead to decompression and loss of structural integrity.
Fire or Explosion
A fire in the flight or an explosion could have caused the flight to crash. For example, fumes in the gas tank can lead to the burst. But the satellite didn’t detect any mid-air burst. “This doesn’t mean the aircraft didn’t break up,” said Todd.
Controlled landing on water
According to the reports, there have been many incidents where the pilots have successfully landed aircrafts on water. This could have happened to Flight 370 as well – where the passengers and crews would have survived with life jackets floating over the water before the flight is drowned completely. But no floating survivor found yet.
Pilot suicide
There were few occasions when the pilots committed suicide during the flight. According to FAA, 24 American pilots have committed suicide during the flight.
Pilot Hijacking
It’s been reported that an Ethiopian Airlines flight was hijacked by a pilot, who locked himself inside the cockpit and leaving the co-pilot outside. The flight was hijacked to Geneva. Maybe this could have happened to Flight 370. There were reports questioning the behavior of a pilot in Malaysian Airline flight, who allowed a south african women into the cockpit in the past. The same pilot has also built a flight simulator at his home and the questions were raised why he needed one? Was he planning for something like this? If yes, where did he drove the flight to and what was his intention?
Missile attack
Few flights, mostly commercial ones were targeted by military in the past. To name, Iran Air flight 655 in 1983 and Korean Flight 007 in 1988. Did that happen to Malaysian Airline Flight? But there were no reports from Malaysia or Vietnam militaries.
Update: 14/3/2014 5.17pm – The flight might be still flying and safe
The investigators have examined the data and found that the flight is still in automated communication with satellite systems. This new information brings a hope that the flight might still be functional.
Lets hope to hear more updates.
