Nokia Lumia 1020 Review: A best phone indeed!
The review of the Nokia Lumia 1020 is rather late but let me tell you. I’ve had the phone from the starting when it was to be launched here in India. But being a bit lazy and goofing around, I didn’t find time to write the review of the best phone in the world. All you Android fans out there can complain – no apps and games, but I don’t give a damn. It is actually the most attractive and hard to resist operating system I’ve ever seen. All it needs is a getting used to and I’m sure you’ll not be able to come out of it.
Hardware
The front of the device features a large 4.5″ screen with a qHD display and also comes with Nokia ClearBlack technology which will give deeper blacks and a high contrast ratio for the viewing pleasure. The display of the device supports up to 16M colors. Looking at the front of the device, below the screen there are three most basic buttons – back, home and the search capacitive buttons. On to the right side, the lock button and above that are the volume rockers, up and down and the left side doesn’t feature anything. The Unique selling point of the device is the camera at the back which is a 41MP sensor which can oversample the image down to either 5MP or 8MP which actually gives you a vibrant image without much noise. As my device was one of the first, it had some problems with the image processing. And the time taken to process the image and to start up the camera was bit long.
Software
The Lumia 1020 comes with a Windows Phone 8 GDR2 pre-installed and upgradeable to GDR3 and eventually to the WP 8.1. There is also an additional software package dubbed the Lumia Black which is exclusively available for Nokia devices alone which feature exclusive packages like FM radio, Storyteller, Nokia Beamer, the upgraded Nokia camera which features the new DNG format and the latest change in algorithm processing which gives more blur free and noiseless images. The quality of the 41MPs.
Accessories
There are wide range of accessories available for the Lumia 1020 directly from Nokia as well as from the case maker Capdase. From Nokia, leather cases are available which is stunning. And the sider baco case, which we gave a detail review on for the 1520 is also available for the 1020 with the same suction cups and keyholes present which make the phone look so cool. But the cases are very heavily priced.
Issues
There are a lot of issues with the phone like Internet explorer doesn’t allow you to use a drag down box. If you keep touching the bar, it will ask you to open in another tab and if you press for a short time, there will be no response. Other issues that I found are the music player sometimes gets stuck to a particular volume and this issue was resolved in GDR3. During calls, the volume is as low as it gets. That is a huge problem though. As the OS is new and young and reborn, it needs more time to stabilize and to be called a threat. But so far so good.
