Pirated softwares spreads trojans : Symantec

Mac users are warned of a new malware are distributed with the pirated softwares.  These malwares are presently targetting Mac OS X.

According to the reports from both Intego and Symantec, the malwares are presently targetting the Mac OS X and are distributed with the pirated copy of Apple’s iWork productivity suite.

According to both the companies,  the malware is embedded within the iWork installer package and it starts to spread on the computer that installs it. As soon as the malware gets installed to the computer, it connects to the remote machine and send confidential data to the malware user.

“The malicious software connects to a remote server over the Internet; this means that a malicious user will be alerted that this Trojan horse is installed on different Macs, and will have the ability to connect to them and perform various actions remotely,” Intego said in its report.

“It is still significant because with the current economic crisis, more and more people might be tempted to pirate software instead of paying for it,” Romo, Symantec product manager said.
