Terrain Vehicle maker Polaris, in the verge of developing Airless Tyres

Airless tyre, an innovation from Polaris, the company known for manufacture All Terrain vehicles was primarily developed for military applications, but later found to be well suited for off-road use. This Non-Pneumatic Tyre (NPT) is expected to be launched during the beginning of next year. The tyre will use a special flexible web instead of rubber carcass and it will be made of three layers; where the layer that touches road is the outer rubber tread band, covering the flexible web and solid steel rim. The technical report from the company says, the tyre will also avoid any pebbles, dirt, gravel or branches from stucking into the tyres.

Polaris plans for Airless Tyre in next year

The company says, Non-Pneumatic Tyres will not bounce like the conventional tyres, thus making it easy for driving on rough terrain roads. Also the tyre produces very less noise, because only the air filled tubes will amplify the sound. The tyre has been tested by running it for more than 5000 hours of off-road testing; which includes crossing train tracks, during which the outer rubber tread band got punctured and still ran for another 1600 kms.
