Range Rover Evoque and the Evoque Coupe: Beauties in disguise
Range Rover is a set of luxury vehicles produced by Land Rover, a British company which is actually a subsidiary of the Jaguar Land Rover which in turn is a subsidiary of the Indian Car maker Tata Motors since 2008. The Range Rover Evoque is an aero-dynamically correct version of the Freelander.
The specifications of the vehicle are as follows:
- Engine description: 2.2L 187.4bhp 16V SD4 Diesel Engine
- Transmission: 9 Speed Automatic 4WD
- Engine Displacement: 2196 cc
- Maximum Power: 187.4bhp@5200 rpm
- Maximum Torque: 420Nm@2000 rpm
- Mileage: 5.7 kmpl (City); 8.14 kmpl (Highway)
- Fuel Type: Diesel
- Fuel Capacity: 60L
- Kerb weight: 1595-1700kg
Design
The car is light weight and is actually 100kg lighter than the Freelander and the power produced by its engine is decent enough in comparison to the given weight of the vehicle. The car actually demands your attention and will make your heads turn. The car was launched as two distinct models- the 5 door Evoque and the 3 door Evoque Coupe. It is powered by a turbocharged four cylinder engine.
Interior
The interior of the SUV is amazing and comfortable to sit in. There is new dynamism and a new feel to the inside of the car. The interiors look like a Jaguar which is becoming a standard due to the JLR partnership. The rotary gear dial and the compact buttons nearby are a new style to the Evoque and are smaller than the Freelander. The cabin is not all jewel based and has a classy look. The adjustable steering is one in which every one can fit into a comfortable position in. The plastics, leather and the textures are very commendable especially at the price range. The three door variant- the Evoque coupe gives special headroom for adults. And the car being compact accommodates about 550L of boot space and also enough leg room for everyone. Wow!
Performance
As already said, Evoque is actually the Freelander, re-engineered. The car borrows 30% of the design architecture from the Freelander. The body uses Aluminium in the panel and suspension, and plastics for the body thus owning to the 100kg lightness. The Terrain Response system actually puts more control in your hands to allow you to steer through any difficulty. It very much says how much you have to accelerate in a particular terrain. There are also paddle shifters present behind the steering wheel which will make you feel like Jason Statham behind a Lamborghini wheel as he did in Transporter series. But in addition, you have the intelligent gearbox which performs silently and cleanly.
Running Costs and MPG
The Evoque is the most beautiful car around with it being built around features and look, no doubt! But for 59 lakhs, you can as well look at the other options than a car who cannot perform better than a Ford Focus. The competitors are the BMW X3, the Audi Q5. The MPG or KMPL is around 9 when going in highways. The diesel variant’s cost is initially high than the petrol variant but the running cost for the petrol variant is very much high.
Conclusion
All in all, the car is a good buy and value for money. Expect a few misfunction and some sluggishness. Apart from that, the car is just awesome for such a price.
