Sony DCR – SR87 Handycam

The DCR SR87 is the next in the series of Sony’s Hard drive Handycam Camcorders.The DCR-SR87 Handycam® camcorder contains an 80GB hard disk drive to store all the high-quality videos and stills.   This camcorder also features hybrid recording technology, which gives you the flexibility to record video to the hard drive or Memory Stick PRO Duo™ media.

Recording & Storage

This new camcorder comes with a 1/6” Advanced HAD CCD Imager for outstanding recording. With the Hybrid recording technology, you can record to 80GB hard disk drive or choose instead to record to removable Memory Stick PRO Duo™ media (sold separately). Also various dubbing functions can be used to easily to copy video or still images from the HDD to the Memory Stick® media — without using a PC.

The DCR-SR87 supports a direct connection with the VRD-P1 DVD burner (sold separately), with which one can burn DVDs directly from the camcorder without the need for a PC.

The Lens

The DCR-SR87 features a professional-quality Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® lens designed specifically for compact camcorders. Precision ground optics help maintain the sharpness and contrast of larger lenses, and SteadyShot™ image stabilization helps reduce blur caused by camera shake.

DCR SR87 comes with 25X optical zoom. In addition, Digital Zoom Interpolation means that extreme digital zooming (up to 2000X) is clearer, with less distortion than previous types of digital zooms.

Audio Dolby Digital 5.1 Support

The SR87 model allows Dolby® Digital 5.1 channel recording. It captures active sounds coming from all directions, so you can experience your home movies the way you experienced them while recording. The Built-In Zoom Mic focuses audio recording on your subjects in sync with the camera’s zoom lens.

Other Design Features

Sporting a 2.7” touch panel display, this camcorder also features SteadyShot image stabilization. The 2.7″ wide touch panel LCD display provides good viewing clarity with 123K pixels resolution. The display rotates up to 270 degrees for multiple viewing angles. The convenient touch panel allows easy access to menus and additional functionality such as spot focus and spot metering.

The camcorder  can be powered on by simply opening the LCD display.

The DCR-SR87 features an additional set of record and zoom buttons on the frame of the LCD screen, giving more control and flexibility when holding the camcorder, especially in overhead or low angle shots.

Sony® PMB (Picture Motion Browser) software is included, with which video and still images can be  transferred, sorted, and viewed on the PC.  A DVD copy of the footage can be burnt using the supplied PMB software. A USB 2.0 interface provides an easy way to connect your camcorder to a compatible PC for fast transfer of video and still images for editing.
