3D Printed Dresses Hit Paris Fashion Week at Iris van Herpen Show – “Voltage”

3D printing is reaching next height! Recently we saw about 3D printed hamburger and now its the turn for the dress. I’m really fascinated by the way they are made!

Stratasys Objet Connex 3-D printer is used to manufacture the pieces. This allows both hard and soft materials to be incorporated within the design which results a single blended piece!

The simple black dress is a collaboration by Austrian architect Julia Koerne, and Materialize, a Belgian-based company that provides additive manufacturing software and solutions.

The second, a cape and skirt, was created in collaboration with artist, architect, designer, and professor Neri Oxman from MIT’s Media Lab.

“The ability to vary softness and elasticity inspired us to design a second skin for the body acting as armor-in-motion; in this way we were able to design not only the garment’s form but also its motion,” said Oxman.

The fashion dresses are to be showcased at the MIT after the show.
