Samsung’s Incredible Flexible Display for Smartphones and Tablets – Youm

CES 2013 – This time CES 2013 has already seen plenty of innovations from various companies and still plenty to come before the show ends on Jan 11th. In the incredible gadgets line, Samsung showcased its new Flexible display called “Youm” during its closing keynote.

Samsung had displayed few demo units, which were 5-inches in size, including a phone like device surrounded with a screen that can display text messages and alerts without the user needing to view the entire display. According to the reports from CNET, Samsung uses OLED technology behind the screens which can deliver deeper blacks and high contrast ration with plenty of care taken to improve its power efficiency.

What seemed more interesting to me was the display’s ability to bend flexibly. To describe that flexibility, i can say – it b end it like a question mark. Though this concept was similar to the one LG worked early this year, Samsung appears to be using its own technology to turn parts of the phone to display information and add interactivity.
