Vomiting Larry Robot: Simulated vomiting system to experiment ‘Norovirus’
The Health & Safety Laboratory in Buxton, U.K has created an anatomically correct model to determine how far the norovirus can spread.
Norovirus is a winter vomiting bug which had been responsible for an around 880,000 cases of vomiting and diarrhoea in the UK since the summer. It was first found when 150 children at the Norwalk-Bronson Elementary School in Ohio were all affected by the virus in 1968. It spreads rapidly, since, as few as 18 viral particles can infect a new person, but there are often thousands of particles present in each drop of vomit!
Larry gets a vomit when he gets the virus even from 10 feet from the source. But don’t worry he doesn’t vomit really, its just a substitute with fluorescent markers to track the spread easily! Watch the video below.
It was found that the virus can travel an impressive 3m (9.8ft) in a projectile episode! Thanks to Larry!
