ISSpresso – Coffee date in space!!!

Astronauts can now begin their day with a cup of coffee like HUMANS on the earth !!!

Thanks to zero gravity, astronauts have to go to space without creature comforts we take for granted. Technology, ”god of solutions” has put its first step in bringing such comforts in space. An Italian coffee company, Lavazza, ISS (International Space Station) and the aerospace company Argotec have come together to bring an authentic COFFEE into the earth’s orbit.

Yes!!! ISSpresso is a machine that can be used in space to make great authentic coffee !!!

ISSpresso is a word play of ISS (International Space Station) and espresso.

Birth of ISSpresso – How did the idea begin ???

When you are an astronaut and space is your address for months together, home comfort becomes most important than ever. At times it can even cause depression. Depression is the first enemy of astronauts. Therefore a census was taken to know what is the one thing that the space people miss the most and it was known to be “COFFEE”. And 20 years after the census, here, “ISSpresso” is born.

The machine weighs about 20 kilograms in total and uses coffee capsules. It can function fantastically at zero gravity. The plastic that is used on the earth’s coffee machine is being replaced by steel in order to handle liquids at high temperature and pressure.

A prototype is being tested at Argotec and is to be delivered to the space station in November by Italy’s first female astronaut, Samantha Cristoforetti. She is also a captain of the Italian air force. She is not only the first Italian woman to go to space but also the first woman,rather human to drink coffee in space.   

The idea of coffee machine will act as a “Venue of get together”.

Thinking of taking your girl friend 😉 for a coffee to space… NOT A BAD IDEA!!!
