You Can Be a Superhero Too! Buy the Pyro and Shoot Fireballs like a Badass

The phrase ‘playing with fire’ just got a new twist and the product responsible for it is the new Pyro Fireshooter – a wearable device which allows you to shoot fireballs, designed by professional magician Adam Wilber. So if you practice magic and want to draw those audible gasps of shock and awe from the audience, or just want to impress your friends and family by looking like a superhero who controls the elements, Pyro is something that should be on your Christmas wish list.

Pyro – New Breakthrough in Wearable Flame Throwing Devices

Believe it or not, the Pyro is not the first product that lets you shoot fire from your hands. A couple of years ago, Patrick Priebe – a weapons hobbyist and unsurprisingly, an Iron Man fan – created the Fire Glove, which is exactly what it sounds like, but instead of shooting balls of fire, it is just a miniature flame thrower.

Using the Fire Glove as an inspiration and fusing it with the concept of flash guns – which are bigger and not so subtle – Adam Wilber managed to create a much more refined and saleable product – the Pyro.

Behind the Magic – What is the Pyro and How Does it Work?

A lot of work has gone into creating this magical and awe inducing device. Almost two years and four prototypes after he started working on it, Wilber managed to attain his goal and realize the product he had envisioned. The challenge was to make the device sleek and inconspicuous, something so subtle that it would not catch the attention of people which is absolutely vital if the aim is to surprise and shock them. The team behind Pyro overcame this challenge by attaching the device to a strap which can be worn around the wrist, just like a watch. Minimal attention is drawn to it and it can be discreetly covered by a sleeve until it needs to be used. Along with the actual Fireshooter, comes a trigger button which can be held in the other hand or kept in a pocket until it is required. The device itself is powered by two AAA batteries and the trigger runs on a 2032 Watch Battery.

So what happens when you press the trigger? Well, the wearable device has four chambers which need to be loaded beforehand, first with cotton and then with flash paper – a specially treated paper that is meant to burn very quickly, leaving as little residue as possible. Once the device is fully loaded and the trigger is pressed, a signal is sent to the glow plug housed in the device on the wrist which ensures the ignition of both the cotton and the paper. Voila! A fireball will be shot from the device, giving the illusion that it came from the palm of the hand. Once all the four chambers have been emptied, the device can be reloaded for further use.

A Magician’s New Best Friend, or A Show-off’s Latest Toy?

Although the Pyro is designed by a magician for magicians, it is obviously a product that will engage every person who gets a kick out of shooting fireballs from their hands, and frankly, there might be a lot of those. No matter who you are, I think it goes without saying that in the wrong or irresponsible hands, this product can be dangerous. It can be a hazard to the safety of the owner and those around him/her. So read the instructions carefully, follow the safety guidelines and only then, step into your superhero boots and shoot some fireballs.

The Pyro Fireshooter is available for US$174 from ellusionist.com.
