Nokia C7 review
Nokia’s new Nokia C7 arrives alongside the budget C6, and slider E7. They’re the first phones packing Symbian 3 software, so we got tapping and flicking to see how Symbian had improved. The Nokia C7 packs a redesigned and rethought version of the much-maligned Symbian software, which looks great on the giant, crisp AMOLED screen.
The C7 is powered by the latest version of the Symbian operating system. Symbian 3 includes assorted social features, giving you access to your social networks and tying your contacts to their profiles on websites like Facebook and Twitter. Other networks are set to be added in due course. When you dial a number, the dialler shows the number you’ve typed in and at the same time searches your contacts for the corresponding letters.
The phone has three home screens, which you can customise with widgets that display snippets of information such as news headlines, weather, your email, your contacts or your friends’ social network status updates. A locations widget shows where you are, which you can share with Facebook. There are also pre-installed Web TV widgets, with the option of adding more. Services in the UK include the BBC and CNN.
The 3.5-inch screen is a crisp, vivid AMOLED glass touchscreen. It plays back 720p video, but unlike its bigger brother, the N8, it lacks Dolby sounds or an HDMI connection. Fortunately for a phone that’s so Web-based, connectivity is pretty comprehensive, with Wi-Fi and 3G both on board to handle your online antics. The camera shoots 720p video as well as 8-megapixel stills, with a fixed-focus lens. Fixed focus is a multi-purpose, one-size-fits-all approach. Everything between 1m and 50m from the camera will be in focus, but stills and videos do tend to look rather flat. This mobile is available in India for 16,000 Indian Rupees.
