Apple seeks for “iWatch” trademark in Japan
Apple, who doesn’t know this name in the world ! Great innovations, iMac, iPod, iPhone to name a few given by Apple in the previous is now adding one more “iWatch” to its list. This news is out with Apple seeking a trademark for “iWatch” in Japan ahead of its rival Samsung Electronics Co. which manufactures biggest smartphone devices in the world.
On June 3rd 2013, Apple had filed for “iWatch” trademark to protect the name amid a surge in interest by tech firms in developing smartwatches. In Feb 2013, it was reported that about 100 product designers are working on a wristwatch-like device that may perform some of the tasks performed by today’s iPhone and iPad like, making phone calls, identifying incoming callers etc., While in March 2013, Samsung announced that it is also developing a smart wrist watch.
CEO Tim Cook is in need of a new revolutionary gadget that follows the iPhone smartphone and iPad tablet computers, as the company has not introduced a new product since October 2012 !
In April 2013, Microsoft showed interest in building a touchscreen watch device, while Google is the latest to join the list with reports saying it was developing an Android-powered smartwatch among other products. Last week, Taiwanese firm Foxconn also unveiled a smartwatch that can be connected wirelessly to an iPhone.
While Sony’s SmartWatch being already in the market for more than a year, connects to smartphones wirelessly using Android operating systems and allow users to take calls and reply to e-mails or texts. Sony recently announced a follow up to its SmartWatch in the form of SmartWatch 2, which is expected to go on sale around September.
Pebble kicked off the watch craze last year with a blockbuster Kickstarter project that raised over $10 million. It began shipping its first devices to backers earlier this year.
