Now book train tickets from mobile – IRCTC’s mobile portal.

According to the reports from Times of India, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) have launched a new mobile portal for its users. The portal can be accessed from irctc.co.in/mobile.

Using the above link, users can book their train tickets from their mobile phone. The move by IRCTC seems practical considering the amount of mobile internet users in India. The user has to complete the initial registration and the subsequent software download to make their ticket bookings. Once the booking is successful, the user will receive the ticket details, like the PNR number, train number, journey details and other details as a virtual message.

The print out of the tickets are not required, as the virtual message sent by IRCTC can be shown during the ticket verification.

This move is really promising and lets hope the mobile portal doesn’t say “Service Unavailable” like the main site.
