LaFerrari – Ferrari’s Hybrid Super-car unveiled [GenevaAutoShow 2013]

The long-awaited Ferrari’s fastest ever road car was showed off at the Geneva Auto Show 2013! It is ofcourse a hybrid car! The hybrid powertrain is a 6.3-liter V12(capable of giving 789 horsepower) with two electric motors and a 132-pound battery pack.  The electric motor adds 161 hp, for a total of 951 hp and 664 pound-feet of torque.

Of the two, one electric motors is coupled to the car’s seven-speed dual-clutch and the other is used to power accessories. Ferrari calls this hybrid system HY-KERS (Hybrid Kinetic Energy Recovery System) which is used in Formula 1 to give cars an extra boost of acceleration.

The batteries are re-charged under braking and when electric motor is generating excess torque. Unlike the McLaren P1, Ferrari tunes the gasoline engine to run at high revs and allows electric motor to cover the low end for consistent power delivery. Ferrari says the LaFerrari will reach 62 mph (100 kph) in less than three seconds.

The price is expected to be roughly around $1 million.
