Garmin’s New Edge 800 GPS

While there are plenty of mobile GPS units for cars and even hand-held units for hikers, Garmin has yet to cash in on an untapped market, cyclists—until now.  Not content with providing users the Garmin Phone or letting them use official apps on their other smart devices, Garmin has created an entire device with the purpose of giving bike riders the global location services they need in a package they can actually handle.

garminThe new 800 is a touch screen device with a 2.6 inch color LCD that can handle even the wildest rides.  In fact, there has been a significant overhaul on the devices software including the addition of “HotFix” mapping so users can rest assured that their device will have no trouble catching or keeping a satellite signal. It can also be integrated with their already-owned devices such as heart rate monitors and pedal speed monitors.

It’s not going to be cheap when it hits the market later this fall with a price tag of $449 for the base model.
