Google’s challenge towards india’s growing web users!

google-india“India is the biggest growing market in terms of the internet users”, predicts the internet giant Google Inc.  According to Google, Indian internet users will increase by 200 million in just two years time.  But says, the challenge to capitalize on such huge users is going to be tough, with most of the advertising money goes to news papers and televisions. Though the rise of internet users are going to make big impact in the online advertising, google country head in india, Rajan Anandan, says that its going to be tough to compete the television advertisement campaigns.

Google has also predicted that, india  will reach 300 million internet users by the end of the year 2014 and its about 100 million users now. Growing high speed infrastructure in india, is the major boost towards the rise of internet usage in the country. Without even having high speed infrastructure, india has the third highest number of internet users in the world.

Making money from that growing users, is increasingly difficult for Google and other Internet companies. Indian online advertisement spending is about $200 million per year – a small slice of the $80 billion global digital advertising industry. E-commerce powered applications like airline and cinema ticket sales  generate around $5 billion in revenue which is very less compared to $80 billion in China.

Mr. Rajan Anandan said his company wants to expand the market of advertisers significantly by targeting  small businesses like travel agencies, universities,  hotels and restaurants – among them most of them don’t even have a websites for their business.

Mr. Rajan believes that growing smart phones usage in india, can also lead to more number of users using the internet today. iPhone which seemed dream for indians, is now in the hands of most of the IT professionals and business men. Mr. Rajan, also says that mobile companies should come up with more smart phone releases in the country which could can cause major impact in the internet marketing.

For online growth to continue, Mr. Anandan said, “there needs to be a policy framework and a set of policies that are conducive to the growth of the Internet.”
