Volkswagen India to test its Polo R2 vehicle for 2k14 Rally

Volkswagen is readying its new car for the Indian Rally Championship. The company has created a prototype- the Polo E2 for the same. Volkswagen Motorsport India has revealed that the prototype of the Polo R2 will compete in the 2014 Indian Rally Championship. Before competing in the next year’s championship, the Polo R2 will be tested at the K1000 Rally in Bangalore scheduled to be held on the 9th and 10th of November, followed by the Chikmagalur Rally in December this year.

The Polo R2 is powered by a 1.6 Litre MPI engine that gives out a maximum power output of 128.2bhp. It is mated with a 5 speed manual transmission and will feature Reiger suspension and updated Alcon Disc Brakes (both in the front and the rear). The first Alcon brakes featured in Renault Clio back in 2010. Front discs were on aluminium bells and were 332 mm in diameter with 4 pot Alcon calipers. Rear discs were 266 mm in diameter with 2 pot Alcon calipers.

The rally spec version gets aerodynamic body kit, roof vent, rear spoiler and stripped interiors. It will feature FIA-spec roll-cage and fire extinguisher, while the seats will feature six-point harness for the driver and navigator. The Polo R2 will come with 15-inch alloy wheels shod with JK Rally tyres. The tyre company is proud to be on the wheels of a Rally car and the company is sure making its name for reliability and durability for use on extreme outdoor conditions. The first outing was done by Karamjit Singh who is a former PWRC Champion. Prithviraj Siddappa, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport India, said:

The first running in of the car has been done and the feedback has been good so far. Karamjit Singh has been driving the Group N Polo this season for which we have been providing technical and spares support at the rally stages. He will now move up to the R2 which is a more powerful car. His inputs are crucial for us in developing the car further and we hope to see some positive steps after the K1000 Rally

Lets hope for the best!!
