Security reinvented: Here’s to Boeing Black and BlackPhone

Do you think you are secure when you are using the internet? When using a mobile device with your location enabled? Or better, with biometric sensors like finger print sensor and an iris scanner or a heart rate monitor? Not at all. These are just ways by which the government especially the NSA collect data. If you are a person who worries about security, here are two devices in which one thing and only one thing is really important- Security.

BlackPhone

BlackPhone is a device that is currently in development by Silent Circle, PGP and GeeksPhone. It is the first ever phone that is said to be NSA proof. We recently heard rumors about the NSA collecting information from manufacturers like Google and mainly Apple. Here’s some basic info about the three companies. Silent circle is a company which shut down its own encrypted email service in order not to comply with government regulations. GeeksPhone is a company which builds standard Android hardware and is more into Mozilla Firefox OS development. PGP is not a company but is actually a computer program which means Pretty Good Privacy and is a data encryption and decryption algorithm for safeguarding privacy and is not easily accessible by anyone and not even the Government. The developer of this program is Phil Zimmermann. The phone runs a secure version of Android called the PrivatOS.

This is what Zimmerman said in a video and in a press interview:

I had to wait for the rest of the technology infrastructure to catch up to make it possible to do secure telephony. PGP was kind of a detour for me while waiting for the rest of the technology to catch up to make really good secure telephony possible. I have spent my whole career working towards the launch of secure telephony products. BlackPhone provides users with everything they need to ensure privacy and control of their communications, along with all the other high-end smartphone features they have come to expect.

Boeing Black

Boeing was taught to be an airplane engine company. Boeing is also manufacturing smartphones and that too totally secure. Just like the black box functionality in the airplane, this phone is to be similar. The device was built from scratch (i.e. from basics) to make sure security measures are especially present at every level of the OS. The features of the device are –  a 4.3″ qHD Display, 1.2GHz Dual Core ARM Cortex Processor, A9 CPU, 1590mAh battery, microSD card slot, dual SIM and an unspecified version of Android which like the BlackPhone should be called something cool (seeing from the screenshot, it should be Android 4.1 or above). The Black is a phone which is aimed at transmitting data safely and securely over the highly invasive US defense and security community aka the Government aka the NSA.
