Nikon to launch 3D Conversion Service for its Digital Photo Frame

Nikon is planning to offer a rather interesting Android-powered 3D photo frame over in Japan. The NF-300i features a 7.2-inch display and is capable of converting any image from 2D to 3D, with the 3D image being visible from up to a meter away, not to mention the good news that you won’t need to wear any fancy glasses either. That’s the good news, and the bad news is that Nikon is only allowing folks to rent the photo frame while charging a $25 monthly fee in order to convert the images from 2D to 3D.

Granted the service is part of the company’s updated myPicturetown online storage service and the device is powered by Android 2.1, while being able to play 3D movies, but a monthly fee seems a little steep for a photo frame. The service will also enable users to convert their images to 3D. As of now, the Picturetown 3D service is available only for registered members and it acts as an online image sharing and storing service which allows users to view their photos in 3D.

Hopefully, Nikon will be integrating this service into their upcoming digital cameras and digital photo frames.
