Orbotix takes robotic ball toy Sphero to next-gen, Smartphone-Controlled Sphero 2B [CES 2014]
Orbotix, the maker of smartphone-controlled robotic ball toy Sphero, today announced a next generation, dubbed Sphero 2B. Unlike the original Sphero which was spherical in shape; the version 2B would be cylindrical two-wheel design, which means it offers a customizable tires and accessories for personalized driving experience. The product photos looks nice.
According to Orbotix, “The Sphero 2B is quite fast compared to its predecessor Sphero 2.0 which was debuted in August 2013. The Sphero 2B can move upto 14 feet a second, which is twice as fast as Sphero 2.0. That means, in just over 6 mins, Sphero 2B can touch a mile!!!”.
The Sphero 2B will connect to iOS devices and is controlled with an iOS app via Bluetooth LE. Thanks to its design, to make quick turns, pull off tricks and tumble over uneven terrain.
The Sphero 2B is scheduled for release this fall for just under $100. With its lower price (Sphero 2.0 costs $130), added functionality and look, definitely Sphero 2B might be enough of a package to convince the buyer to buy.
