Qualcomm Announces New Quad-core Chips
Qualcomm, one the most bigges chipset manufacturers of the world have unveiled a new processor known as Quad-Core Snapdragon processor which will be available by the beginning of 2012. There will be three models of these processors, one is single-core processor (MSM8930), second one is dual-core processor (MSM8960) and third one is the quad-core (APQ8064).
New Snapdragon processors will offer 2.5GHz speeds per core, which can deliver 150% more performance. It also saves power up to 65%, than the ARM-based processors now available in market. The quad-core APQ8064 (and all other Krait chipsets) will integrate WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and FM radio, supporting NFC as well as stereoscopic 3D – there will even be in integrated LTE modem.
Sample of quad-core processor APQ8064 will be available in market by Q2 2011 and it will be launched officially by the company only in April 2012. This processor can be used by any smartphone manufacturers too. Launch date and pricing of this processor is not known till now.
