Real 3D Glass Craze
Just when you thought that the 3D trend sweeping the media universe couldn’t get any more . . . well, trendy, Gucci, the high-fashion accessory manufacturer has gotten into the mix with brand new 3D glasses. Claiming that these frames are “optically corrected,” Gucci dropped an aviator style pair of Real D 3D glasses onto the market with a massive $225 price tag this week. They, of course, are following hot on the heels of Oakley whose new specs run around $150 but, is there even a market for designer 3D glasses yet?
With most of the 3D viewing that’s going on taking place in darkened movie theaters, it doesn’t make sense why anyone would pay so much for something nobody will even see. Of course, with more and more 3D media players invading the home market (Playstation 3D, 3D DVD players, and HD TVs) people will eventually need 3D glasses of the non-disposable kind. However, I still don’t see a need for high-fashion frames—the lenses are still the same!
But, if you’re one of those folks who just has to have the best and the newest, you can find your Gucci 3D glasses when they officially launch later this fall.
