Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 – A wider version of the Note 3

Samsung is known for releasing extra ordinary products which have advanced technologies which we don’t even use. The Heart Rate monitor, the Iris scanner and things like Smart Pause and Smart Stay don’t work at all, maybe that is not the case now as there were many updates to the operating system.

The Galaxy Note 12.2 Pro stands as a flagship device and is seeing to do the impossible which the Note 800 and the Note 10.1 could not achieve. The features of the device are as follows:

  •  12.2″ Super Clear PLS with capacitive touch and of resolution 2560×1600.
  • 3GB of RAM
  • Pseudo Octa-Core processor with quad core 1.9GHz and quad core 1.2GHz.
  • Quad Band HSPA/GPRS/EDGE
  • 2MP camera with 1080p video recording
  • 32/64GB of inbuilt storage
  • Side mounted stereo speakers
  • 8MP autofocus camera
  • Wi-Fi ac/a/b/g/n
  • 9500mAh Li-Po battery

Well, there are some disadvantages in the device.

  • Poor audio and video codec support
  • Air view works with S-Pen only
  • High price

User Interface

The Samsung Galaxy Note 12.2 runs Android 4.4.2 Kitkat with TouchWiz UI on top which will give all the Samsung goodies like the S-Pen feature support and so on. This also includes a new version of the Multitasking window. The lockscreen is also tweaked and it shows cards instead of the widgets as in every other Android device. The notification bar features the usual power toggles with a flat look (look similar?) The toggles will turn green once it is on and otherwise retain a grey shade. Below the power toggles, you have two sliders- one for the brightness and other for the volume. Moving on to the app drawer, we get two sort of lists- one alphabetical and other a grid view. There is one important trick or useful feature here – you can disable some of the pre-installed apps which will not (or should I say, should not) take much RAM.

Design

The design is similar to the 2013 lineup of devices- with faux leather in the back and with a metallic lining. There are thin bezels to go with the design on the sides. The microUSB present on the side of the device will make for a tougher case for the device to stand in. And putting it in portrait mode, will get you handicapped as one of the speakers will be cut off. Hint: They are present on both sides of the device.

Display

The display is one of the brightest and features a RGBW display like on the Note 10.1 meaning that there are two sub pixels on one pixel. The brightness can be boosted without any damage to the battery due to the white pixel being present. The display below is the same PenTile matrix. There are various modes present like Movie mode which enhances the saturation and contrast level. The Auto Adapt display makes the screen more vivid and clearer to read even in sunlight. Now this is technology Samsung!

All the other aspects of the device are particularly cool and this is one device from Samsung which I particularly like and want to grab on one of the units as soon as possible.
