Send only 100 SMSes per day per SIM says TRAI!
Here is the shocking news for the SMS lovers, you can send only 100 sms per day from a SIM. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has introduced a regulation act called “The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2010”. This regulation can stop Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC), says TRAI.
Continuation to the effort called “Dont-Not-Disturb (DND)”, this regulation moves step ahead and have banned users from flooding junks of SMSes per day. According to TRAI, the DND system was not fully successful, as it could not guarantee the users from not receiving pesky calls & sms.
Get to know the regulation
TRAI has identified two kinds of messages, one is Transaction messages & other is a Promotional messages.
Transactional messages include messages sent by your bank (your bank means that you hold an account in that particular bank; Messages from other banks are still considered to be promotional messages), from registered educational institute to its students or parents, railway enquiry like PNR status, etc. and these will reach your inbox even if you have registered for complete DND. Currently TRAI has identified a few business categories that need to send such transactional SMS messages and are therefore exempted from the 100 SMS regulation.
Such categories are,
- Dealers of the Telecom Service Providers and DTH Operators for sending request for electronic recharge on mobile numbers etc.; (This includes your service providers like Vodafone, Airtel, IDEA, BSNL etc…)
- e-ticketing agencies are allowed to respond to e-ticketing queries requested by its customers;
- Well, here is your favorite category. Of course, social networking sites – Facebook, Twitter, Orkut, LinkedIn and GooglePlus are allowed to send messages to its members. This includes account activation, status updates etc..
- And the most important categories, the agencies who provide us the directory services such as Justdial, Askme etc.
