Join hands to fight against World Water crisis! All you need to do is, Go without your Phone!

How long can you go without your phone? A minute, an hour, a day (I doubt!) No, I am no friend of your parents. I am not accusing you of being addicted; although I might be instigating some introspection at this point. In fact, I am not even challenging you, I just want to discuss the things that your phone can do when it’s not in your hands.

For starters, the UNICEF Tap Project. This project which began in 2007 aimed at providing drinking water to impoverish countries and improving sanitation facilities began with asking for the donation of money. Now it asks you for the donation of your time, your time away from your mobile phone. For every 10 minutes you go without touching your phone, you contribute 1 day of water for a child. Don’t worry, no one is going to charge you, the project sponsors are willing to do that job.

To tell you more about this project, it materialized in 2007 by a New York City based advertising/communications agency Droga5 and kick started on March 22, 2007. This day is the official World Water Day. This project began with the notion of asking people to give at least $1 for the tap water they use every day for free. The collected money would be used to provide clean water for children in impoverished places. Since 2007, the UNICEF Tap Project has raised around $2.5 million for water and sanitation programs for children.

You can see the dynamic statistics of the contributors, the amount of water contributed so far, record time and the top cities/states that contribute in the official website.

Apart from using the app, you can also become a volunteer (the criteria being that you must at least be a teenager). In case you are just too busy to involve yourself, you have the option of donating in the form of cash.
