Your favorite native, open source VLC player for Windows 8 is coming sooner! – Currently under Kickstarter funding

Whats new? Your Windows 7 version of  your VLC player will also run on Windows 8, but, will it run on Windows RT?! VideoLAN, the organisation behind the VLC player wants to gives its users more than what exists now, like native integration for new User Experience and support  for ARM-based tablets in a subsequent release.

Currently this project is raising money on Kickstarter and reached its funding goal of £40,000 (about $65,000) with five days to spare. On celebrating this, the company has released some quick bits on the additional features and screen mock-ups!

And the organisation has said, “Any further money coming in will greatly speed up the availability of our port of VLC to Windows Phone 8, since it will allow us to parallelize the workload of the ports to Windows 8 / RT and Phone.”

Additional features to be provided –

  1. camera input support — This allows you to record anything your connected cameras can see and to stream it live where ever you like.
  2. DLNA client and server integration — Play media stored on DLNA capable servers on your Windows RT tablet or Windows Phone — Stream everything VLC can play on your tablet or Windows 8 PC to your DLNA capable devices (Xbox, …).
  3. integration with locally attached devices for media playback and synchronization
  4. Smartglass support

So, lets wait to hear more about the player to play all your files, streams and optical media!
