Zune stopped working last day of the year

Many of the Microsoft’s music player Zune has reportedly been frozen and seized to operate from yesterday.  Reports tell that some users complained the problem happened at exactly midnight PST, at the very beginning of the last day of the year. Apparently the 30 GB models of Zune have been encountering this problem.

CNET news reports that Microsoft has acknowledged the issue on the Zune support site. Microsoft is caught reportedly saying “Customers with 30GB Zune devices may experience issues when booting their Zune hardware. We’re aware of the problem and are working to correct it. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your patience!”

The report also claims that Microsoft issued another statement, saying its technical team has isolated the issue to a bug in the internal clock driver in the player which is related to the way the device handles a leap year. The company says the issue should be resolved over the next 24 hours as the time change moves to January 1, 2009.

A statement from the company quotes “By tomorrow you should allow the battery to fully run out of power before the unit can restart successfully, then simply ensure that your device is recharged, then turn it back on.”
