DIY Cellphone Project by David Mellis – Make your own phone now!

Ever wanted to make your own mobile? We had even welcomed the Project Ara from Motorolat and the concept design –Phoneblocks. But,  here is a wooden-case phone with a retro look and feel that will accept SIM cards, run on GSM, allow you to make and receive voice calls, type and send text messages, alarm clock and ofcourse has a time display. Feeling it better than the Android feature phones or the iPhones? Surely!, a long time no see basic phone is back!

Wonder what?! David mellis, a PhD student at the MIT media lab and a co-founder of the arduino electronics prototyping platform has designed a basic DIY cellphone! You can put the parts in the kit together and  make your own mobile! If you wish to get this DIY kit, buy the kit of parts on Github, which includes a display, buttons, speaker and microphones printed on a custom electronic circuit board (PCB) with about 60 electronic components and a laser-cut enclosure. The case comes in variant wood designs! Enthralled? Here are few pictures of the phone –
