Megaupload plans to delete all of its data – including legal ones

Megaupload.com, is set to delete all of its data soon, may be in a week time, according to the press report. This includes both the legal and illegal that are being stored in Megaupload servers.  The file sharing website was using third party storage service from Carpathia Hosting Inc. and Cogent Communications Group Inc – to store it’s user’s data. Now the megaupload’s service has been frozen and the company is finding difficult to pay the storage service providers.

“We’re cautiously optimistic at this point that because the United States, as well as Megaupload, should have a common desire to protect consumers, that this type of agreement will get done” , says the Megaupload’s attorney Ira Rothken.

According to the stats, there are around 50 million users who might have their legal data stored in Megaupload and the move could affect them badly. Though the company have taken steps to protect the data, but they can’t definitely stay long on Megaupload, at least after looking at the company’s progress!
