The 4179 Toutatis, near Earth-Asteroid will pass the Earth today
A very huge Asteroid named “4170 Toutatis” will pass the earth in next few days and can be watched online from your computers. Toutatis, which is about 3 mile wide, will zoom within 4.3 million miles of Earth during its closest approach today morning. The Toutatis will be close enough, so that it can be watched through telescopes, says researchers. The passing of the asteroid will be webcast-ed lively on “Slooh” website, which will be tracking the Toutatis’ movements using the professional space cameras.
The webcast can be viewed from 3.pm EST today and 10 pm. EST tonight. Interestingly the Slooh webcast will feature the online commentary from the Slooh president Patrick Paolucci and Bob Berman, the columnist from Astronomy Magazine.
“Slooh technical staff will let the public follow this fast-moving asteroid in two different ways. In one view, the background stars will be tracked at their own rate and the asteroid will appear as an obvious streak or a moving time-lapse dot across the starry field,” Berman said in a statement to Mashable.
It’s not the first time Toutatis passes the earth, it was also viewed in 1934 and then officially discovered in 1989.
