PM Office Use Squirrel Mail Now

The Prime Minister Office of the Indian Government switched to SqurrelMail from Microsoft Outlook Express due to the technical bug in MS Outlook during the mid 2008.

The PMO said to the Central Information Commission that, several mails during Feb-Apr in 2008 were not received, and subsequently the Outlook Express was discontinued.

Now the PMO facilitates e-mail communication through SquirrelMail, which is open source Email client developed using PHP.Deepak Sandhu, prime minister’s media advisor, said, “There is a volume of around 150-200 e-mails per day that comprises a collective communication within the office organization and between the government departments, as well as spam.”

The company has recently issued an advisory to its users against unsolicited e-mail sent by spammers that encourages them to upgrade the e-mail system with SquirrelMail’s newest version-1.4.15.
