CES 2014 is on the way! What does it have in store?

What is CES? Many of you might have heard the name. For others who are looking to know about it, give me a chance to explain and make you clear on what CES is all about. CES stands for Consumer Electronics Show. CES hosts a wide range of new technology which are to come into the market some time later. It also hosts some vehicles as well – some technologically different ones and not like the normal Auto shows.

The event is happening in Los Angeles, Nevada, United states. The first CES was conducted in the year 1967 but the actual fame of the event was after its rival event COMDEX was cancelled. CES is going to happen in the LA convention center and will happen on the dates between January 7-10, 2014. We’ll give you some highlights from the previous years from 2004 up to 2013 (i.e. the last 10 years)

CES 2004

  • This year of CES saw the first Blu-Ray disc introduction.

CES 2005

  •  This year started with much amusement and shock as the event was first started off by Microsoft chairman Bill Gates who when wanted to introduce WMC (Windows  Media center) saw the BSOD (Blue screen of death).
  • Samsung introduced its 102″ plasma
  • Zimiti Ltd., a British Company won the Best Innovator award.

CES 2006

  • The theme was on High Definition
  • The first HD movies and HD players were announced.
  •  Philips created a roll-able display which could retain an image without electricity for several months.

CES 2007

  • A break from tradition- events did not start on a Thursday. It started on a Monday.
  • Keynotes from various companies like Microsoft, Motorola, etc.
  • Two games based on DirectX 10 were shown- Crisis and Age of Conan

CES 2008

  • Bill gates announced his retirement from day to day activities and performed a skit and with cameo appearances of Jay-Z, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, etc.
  • Panasonic announced a 150″ Plasma as well as 50″  TV with 0.46mm thick waistline.

CES 2009

  •  The theme was 3D.
  • Many companies introduced their 3D products like 3D webcam, etc.
  • The first OLED TV was introduced.
  • This also included other products like pico projector and some major companies releasing their high end and different laptops.

CES 2010

  • Highlights include Intel Infoscape which runs on Intel i7 core processor.
  • “The graphics on the giant screens were a tons of fun to move around with their uncanny quickness and smooth motion, and the whole thing felt super responsive, Giving us a peek into the future, it seemed a lot like that computer screen in the movie Minority Report. It was the most spectacular demo we saw at CES 2010” which was felt by many.
  • Parrot presented the first AR Drone which could stream videos via Wi-Fi through an iPhone.

CES 2011

  • Motorola Xoom tablet was introduced.
  • Many smartphones were being shown.
  • Microsoft released an early concept of Windows mobile based on ARM devices.

CES 2012

  • Inview technology was introduced which meant low cost connected TV capabilities.

CES 2013*

  • Samsung unveils multi-view TVs and Flexible OLED Display Youm
  • Sony announced Sony Xperia Z smartphone, and Samsung Announced Galaxy S4 plus smartphone.
  • Sony announces TRILUMINOS quantum dot display technology.
  • Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 600 & 800 processors that can bring 4K recording capability in Mobile Phones
  • Intel reveals ATOM processor for embedded markets as well as Bay Trail
  • Panasonic announces a wide range of smart TVs. The Panasonic’s Smart Viera HDTVs lineup includes 16 plasmas and 16 LEDs.
  • Razer announces Razer Edge tablet PC
  • Nvidia announces Android handheld Project Shield
  • Research In Motion shows off Blackberry 10 touch screen phone
