Corning’s bendable Willow Glass unveiled at CES 2013
CES not only showed the tough Gorilla Glass, it also had a bendable lighter and razor-thin glass!
Corning the maker of Gorilla glass unveiled the ultra-slim(100 micron), flexible Willow glass that will help develop conformable (curved) displays for immersible viewing or mounting on non-flat surfaces.
The thinness, strength and flexibility of the glass has the potential to enable displays to be wrapped around a device or structure. Also Corning Willow Glass can be processed at temperatures up to 500° C on a “roll-to-roll” processes! This makes it suitable for today’s high-end displays. It can support Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED) and liquid crystal displays (LCD).
Form the official Corning blog, “Corning Willow Glass is formulated to perform exceptionally well for electronic components such as touch sensors, as well as leveraging glass’s natural hermetic properties as a seal for OLED displays and other moisture and oxygen sensitive technologies.”
