Alcatel announces One Touch Fire, first Firefox OS smartphone in MWC

BARCELONA – New phones are arriving here at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Alcatel One Touch Fire is the first smartphone to run the Firefox based mobile operating system. We have already seen Keon phones that run Firefox OS, but they are yet to hit the market. Alcatel One Touch Fire is an 3.5 inch smartphone, that sports open source Firefox OS created by Mozilla. The apps are built using HTML5, which means they are capable of running on your mobile, tablet or on Web.

One Touch Fire is powered by single core Qualcomm processor clocked at 1GHz, 256MB RAM, 3.2 megapixel camera, 2GB internal memory; which can also take up bigger storage card up to 32 GB.

The smartphone will come in bright color coated plastic casing, rounded corners; it includes Firefox’s brand color orange as well. But the disadvantage of running Firefox OS, is the limited number of apps that are available. It’s not iOS or Android, but certainly HTML5 apps are on the way. Just swiping across left, will take you to the Firefox OS app store, where you can find icons representing each categories of apps, like camera apps, sport apps etc…

We are not sure about its release date, but the handset will first hit the market of China, Latin America and Europe. Probably you can expect the launch during the month of June, 2013.
