A Contact lens with LCD screen that can display text message, videos and Images
Scientists from Ghent University of Belgium are working on developing a contact lens that will feature LCD display screen – this spherical LCD display can project images, text and videos via wireless technology. This new technology allows the electronic messages from mobile phones to be directly displayed on to contact lenses placed on human eyes. The researchers demonstrated the concept by displaying a dollar sign on the contact lens. The entire contact lens surface can be used to display any electronic message. The researchers are also working on to transform the contact lens as sunglasses which can adapt to the level of sunlight.
“This will never replace the cinema screen for films. But for specific applications it may be interesting to show images such as road directions or projecting text messages from our smart phones straight to our eye”, says Jelle De Smet, the chief research of the project.
This kind of contact lens can be used for medical purpose, say to control the light transmission toward the eye’s retina in case of a damaged iris.
