You can Hangout in HD sooner! – “Google Hangouts”
This is great news as Google is going to add HD to your Google Hangouts video chat. This is being rolled in the past few weeks and luckily you may have been a user who has already got this feature unknowingly!
But what is more interesting about this fact is that, the update not only upgrades your videos to 720p HD but also includes the move from H.264 (AVC) codec to VP8, an open standard video compression format which is owned by Google itself. Also its a step towards letting users to video chat without the need of any plugin. Which means Google is planning to move to WebRTC, which could enhance the video chat experience.
One more change technically is that Google will not use any third-party code to run hangouts and this means it is phasing out the use of third-party code provided by the video conferencing technology vendor Vidyo.
Finally it gives you a smile of not having to download any additional software additionally with HD videos in few days now!
