Rumour : Micromax going the Windows way?

The Indian Brand Micromax is all set to release its own set of Windows range of devices. The device(s) are said to feature the latest iteration of Microsoft OS- WP8. Don’t know if it comes with GDR2 out of the box.

The below image is a rendering. After Micromax challenged the likes of Sony and Samsung and many more competitors in the Android world, the company is all set to dive into a new world. As the Android platform was Open source, it worked to the company’s expectation and way beyond. The set of features at a mid range phone price attracts people.

Micromax and WP8

Example, when Sony releases a phone with Android 4.1 (or) 4.2 the price is around 20k range but when micromax does the same and gives the same features, the price range is around 10k-16k which is 4k cheaper. But in the field of Windows Phone, Nokia is monopolizing the business due to their added extras such as HERE Navigation Services, the Camera Lenses and other extra packages exclusively available to the Lumia Range of devices. After acquisition of Nokia by Microsoft many people have their doubts on whether the Nokia brand will be present on the devices or not. It is likely to be present and Nokia will still continue producing their phones branded by their own name and not by Microsoft much similar to how Google obtained Motorola.

This is what the co-founder Mr. Rahul Sharma said when asked this question.

Do you think Nokia’s sale to Microsoft has had any impact on players like yourself? Are you planning to make Windows smartphones sometime in the future?

“It has been good for us because they have chosen to stick to the Windows operating system. Had they chosen Android, it would have been a threat for us. But now we’re certain that they will not look at Android, which means lesser competition for us. We are working on a Windows phone and you might see something from us around mid of next year.”

The co-founder looks optimistic. But there is not much chance for Micromax to survive in the WP8 field as Nokia is proving its worth by yet being the top in the WP game. The above news is a rumor. Make sure you take it with a pinch of salt. And only time will tell whether Micromax will come as a successful competitor in the WP game.
